Pulse Width Modulation Projects

The Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) is a method used to drive the inertial loads from a very long time. The simple case of an inertial load is a motor. First apply some power to the motor for certain time period and turn off the power now, one can observe that the motor continues running even after switching the power off. The reason is the motor’s inertia and the implication of this factor is that the constant power is not necessary for that sort of devices to function. A split open power can keep the total power transferred to the load while obtaining the same act from the device as it operates on continuous power.

The PWM technique is used in devices such as DC motors, Loudspeakers, Class -D Amplifiers, etc. They are also employed in communication field. The modulation techniques like AM, FM are widely used RF communication while the PWM technique is mostly used in Optical Fiber Communication (OFC). The PWM saves the power greatly during transmission in inertial loads case, while the immunity against inter symbol interference is another benefit.

Pulse Width Modulation

The Pulse Width Modulation is a technique in which the ON time or OFF time of a pulse is varied according to the amplitude of the modulating signal, keeping t he (ON time + OFF time) time of the pulse as constant. The (ON time + OFF time) of a pulse is called ‘Period’ of the pulse, and the ratio of the ON time or OFF time with the Period is called the ‘Duty Cycle’. Hence the PWM is a kind of modulation which keeps the Period of pulses constant but varying their duty cycle according to the amplitude of the modulating signal.
